Roster Cost & Margin Estimator

Price a shift, or a week of shifts, two ways: what you pay the worker under the SCHADS Award plus your on-costs, and the most the NDIS lets you claim for the same hours. See the margin left over.

Shift by shift

Add a shift to see the estimate.

Assumes evening and night work is rostered as afternoon or night shifts (cl 29). A part-time or casual day worker working outside 6 am to 8 pm is on overtime instead (cl 28.1(b)). Allowances, travel and overtime are not included.

Rates from 1 July 2026

Minimum rates apply from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2026. Disability home care rates are due to change: the 2026 Annual Wage Review decision ([2026] FWCFB 3500) sets a work value increase and a new classification structure for disability home care workers, to be implemented by 1 October 2027. The amounts and dates are not in the award yet. We will update this tool when the award is varied.

Where the margin on a shift goes

An NDIS shift has a ceiling on what you can charge and a floor on what you must pay. The ceiling is the maximum amount in the NDIS Pricing Schedule for the support, day and time. The floor is the SCHADS Award rate for the worker’s classification, with the penalty for when the hours fall, plus the costs that come with every dollar of wages.

What goes into the cost

  • Wages. The award rate from the Fair Work pay guide, split at midnight so Saturday, Sunday and public holiday hours get their own rate, and with the afternoon or night loading on Monday to Friday shifts.
  • Super. 12% from the ATO, on the wages.
  • Your on-costs. Workers compensation, payroll tax and leave are your own percentages of wages. Your insurer or state revenue office may use a different base.

The leave estimate

A full-time worker on 38 hours is paid for 1,976 hours a year, including 152 hours of annual leave and 76 hours of personal leave under the NES. If all of it is taken and the shifts are covered, 1,748 hours are worked, and the leave plus the 17.5% leave loading costs about 14.6% on top of each worked hour. It is an estimate; use your own figure if you have one.

The estimate leaves out travel, supervision, training, overheads and unpaid time between shifts. See the full award rates in the SCHADS Pay Rate Calculator and the price for any band in the NDIS Shift Price Calculator. Rostery shows the cost and the claim side by side for every shift you roster.

Questions people ask

Is the NDIS price what I will be paid?

No. The NDIS Pricing Schedule sets the most you can charge for a support. You can agree a lower price with the participant, and the revenue here assumes you charge the full maximum amount for every hour.

How is a shift that crosses two NDIS time bands priced?

The NDIS Pricing Schedule 2026-27 says that where a support crosses between different times of day or days of week and is delivered by a single worker, the higher of the amounts applies to the whole support. The estimator does that. A handover between two workers makes two separate supports.

Why do the wage and the NDIS price use different time rules?

They come from different documents. The NDIS bands come from Table 61 of the Pricing Schedule. Wages follow the SCHADS Award: weekend and public holiday rates apply to the hours worked on that day, and the afternoon or night loading applies to a whole Monday to Friday shift. So a Friday night shift into Saturday is all Saturday price for the NDIS but is paid at two rates.

What super rate should I use?

The super guarantee is 12% of ordinary time earnings from 1 July 2025, according to the ATO. Overtime is generally not ordinary time earnings, and this estimator prices ordinary hours only, so 12% of the wages is used by default.

What should I enter for workers compensation, payroll tax and leave?

Your own figures. Workers compensation premiums depend on your insurer, state and claims history, and payroll tax depends on your state and total wages, so neither has one correct rate. For leave, the estimator can suggest a figure from the National Employment Standards, explained below. Casuals accrue no paid leave.
