What a roster of care contains

The NDIA's SIL guideline says a roster of care includes:

• the hours of support needed for day-to-day activities at home in an ordinary week
• the ratio of support
• the level of SIL, standard or high intensity
• the type of overnight support
• the amount of irregular support.

How it relates to SIL funding

Under the guideline dated 24 September 2026, the NDIA works out SIL funding itself from evidence of the participant's needs and the NDIS pricing schedule. A roster of care does not decide the amount or type of supports in the plan. It describes the supports the participant can get from their registered SIL provider, and the participant can ask the provider for it at any time.

Making changes

SIL allows minor changes to a daily or weekly routine. Participants and providers can agree minor changes that fit within the funding available, and may write a new schedule to describe them, without telling the NDIA. A significant change in support needs is a reason to ask the NDIA to reassess the plan.

Building a workable roster

• Match hours to the evidence of when support is needed, leaving out regular time away such as work, study or day activities.
• Choose the overnight type correctly: sleepover where up to 2 hours of awake support is needed, active overnight where more is regularly needed.
• Keep irregular support days and public holidays (an average of 12 a year is funded) in view so the funding lasts each funding period.
