What is Registration groups?

Also known as: Classes of support

Registration groups are the categories of support an NDIS provider is registered to deliver. Each group has a four-digit number, such as 0107 for assistance with daily personal activities. The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission uses a provider’s registration groups to decide which type of audit it must complete.

The registration group also appears inside every NDIS support item number, linking what a provider is registered for to what it claims. Groups for higher-risk supports need a certification audit and lower-risk groups need a verification audit. If an application includes both kinds, the provider completes a certification audit.

How registration groups work

Registration groups, which the NDIS Commission also calls classes of support, are part of a registered provider’s registration conditions. The groups a provider applies for, or renews, decide the type of audit it needs.

Examples from the Commission’s table

  • 0101 Accommodation/tenancy assistance: verification audit
  • 0103 Assistive products for personal care and safety: verification audit
  • 0102 Assistance to access and maintain employment or higher education: certification audit
  • 0104 High intensity daily personal activities: certification audit
  • 0105 Personal mobility equipment: verification audit
  • 0106 Assistance in coordinating or managing life stages, transitions and supports: certification audit
  • 0107 Assistance with daily personal activities: certification audit
  • 0108 Assistance with travel/transport arrangements: verification audit

The full table on the NDIS Commission website lists every group with its audit type.

Audit types

  • Verification audit: for low-risk, low-complexity supports.
  • Certification audit: for higher-risk supports, with a mid-term audit 18 months into the registration period.
  • Out of cycle audit: may be needed if you want to change the supports you provide during your registration period.
  • Condition audit: may be required by the Commission during your registration period.

Registration groups in item numbers

The third part of a support item number is the registration group. In 01_013_0107_1_1, 0107 shows that a registered provider needs registration for assistance with daily personal activities to deliver the support.

Check that your registration covers every item you plan to claim. Participants and plan managers can check a provider’s registration using the NDIS Commission’s Find a registered provider search.
